Graphic art of the Frank Sam Cabin along Highway 395 in California’s Eastern Sierra. The weathered house sits among sagebrush below the mountains, under a wide blue sky.

About the cabin

Known as the Frank Sam Cabin, the house is identified in local accounts as one of the last surviving structures from Bridgeport Tom’s Farrington Ranch. Built in the late 1920s and occupied until the early 1960s, it was home to Frank Sam, a descendant of Captain Sam, a Yosemite–Mono Paiute leader during the Mariposa Indian War.
